How I use AI agents to automate my workflow and save hours

Welcome to the 8th edition of the We ❤️ Open Source newsletter!
Our goal is simple... to increase your open source IQ and introduce you to the people making open source possible in the process. What you know and who you know will always lift you up and get you to where you want to go. 🙂
This week we'll take a look at:
Happy weekend reading and viewing!
Ebony Louis, Developer Advocate at Block, pulls back the curtain and explains how AI really works behind the scenes. WHY WE ❤️ IT: "AI" is quite the buzzword these days, and deservedly so. But it remains confusing and intimidating to many. We love how this article breaks it down by explaining three things it does really well. |
Ganesh Jayaraman identifies and discusses five key dimensions of data quality every developer should understand. WHY WE ❤️ IT: The article looks at a systemic framework to building and maintaining a quality program for your data so that the investment(s) in automation and AI will pay off. Data quality is a nebulous concept – good quality data is taken for granted, but everyone notices if the data is of poor quality. |
In this excellent summary article and recording, Dr. Ruth Akintunde of SAS Institute, Inc. points out the future of generative AI isn’t a binary choice—it’s about synergy. Open source and enterprise AI can complement each other, offering the best of both worlds. WHY WE ❤️ IT: The juxtaposition between open source GenAI and enterprise GenAI is excellent, as is the explanation that today's organizations are adopting hybrid approaches, rather than choosing one over the other. *Includes the recording of her keynote talk at ATO AI in March. |
In another fantastic summary article and recording, Mark Hinkle explains that AI can be overwhelming (as many of us know), but community makes it accessible. Education and support networks help demystify AI. WHY WE ❤️ IT: Any talk and/or article that references The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is immediately ok in our book. It also hits on two common themes in our community - inclusivity (matters) in AI education and building AI literacy requires continuous engagement. |
Jen Wike Huger offers this insightful take on 10 reasons developers hate marketing, and encourages us all to avoid these marketing mistakes if you want developers to listen. WHY WE ❤️ IT: Developers are skeptical of hype, allergic to buzzwords, and value practicality over promotional messaging. This article builds on Jen's 14 years of content marketing experience to tell us that marketing to developers is different in some pretty unique ways. |
AI adoption is growing rapidly, but its impact on daily workflows remains limited. Sheng Liang, co-founder of Acorn Labs, explains how AI can go beyond chatbots to drive real productivity. WHY WE ❤️ IT: AI has the potential to move beyond simple chat interactions and become an integral part of daily work, and this summary article and recording does a good job of explaining how. *Includes a link to the recording of Sheng's keynote at ATO AI in March. |
What's in your technology toolbox?

Messaging apps have revolutionized communication, reshaping our daily lives and relationships. This article looks at Signal, advanced end-to-end encryption built on the open source Signal Protocol.
